Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre is set to be closed for 26 weeks as part of a $3.3 million refurbishment of its aquatic facilities.

The new construction works are a joint venture with the Shire of Broome and WA department of Sport and Recreation starting in August at the 22-year-old facility.

The swimming pool is to be closed for the period with aqua aerobics moved to Mercure Broome’s pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, however the indoor stadium sports, outdoor courts and ovals will remain unaffected.

Shire of Broome BRAC manager Casey Zepnick said plant and filtration systems would be replaced, pool areas re-tiled with improved lighting and traffic areas upgraded to improve efficiency.

“The Shire is committed to renewing the town’s sporting infrastructure, and the BRAC aquatic refurbishment joins recent projects including resurfacing the BRAC tennis courts and installing new field lighting at Haynes Oval, and the upcoming resurfacing of the hard courts at BRAC,” Mr Zepnick said.
