Bright future for young lawn bowls stars
Two Broome teenagers have excelled at a national lawn bowls event, proving that they have a bright future in the sport.
Kerri-Ann Zavazal, 15 and John Davies, 14, are rising stars in the game locally and have won open competitions in Broome in 2015.
Their standout performances led to the pair being selected in the Northern Territory’s team to compete in the Australian Under-18 Championships late last month.
Both of the teenage starlets recorded a number of victories in the competition, including against WA competitors, and made it through to the medal playoffs in the three-day event.
Kerri-Ann’s team competed in the gold medal playoff but was unfortunately beaten by New South Wales, while John’s side lost to Victoria in the bronze medal playoff.
The pair agreed that it was a great experience and that they hoped to be part of the NT team for the corresponding tournaments in years to come.
The next competition they are hoping to participate in is the Australian Open in June 2016 over in Gold Coast in Queensland, with the duo hoping to participate in both the open and junior sections.
