Razors will be at the ready next week when a group of Broome residents prepare to baldly go where few dare venture - for the sake of charity.

The brave group of young men and women have all signed up for this year's World's Greatest Shave and will lose their locks to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

They will join thousands of other West Australians in getting sponsored to shave, wax or colour their hair during March 13 to 16 to support research and care for people with blood cancer.

The World's Greatest Shave is the Leukaemia Foundation's biggest fundraising event and has raised more than $158 million since it began in 1998.

Locals including David Goodman, Dale and Andrew Popovich, Stephanie O'Keefe, Toni O'Grady, Michael Brown and 10-year-old Adyn Giesen will all go under the razor next week.

Mr Goodman is preparing to go the whole hog by shaving off his hair and beard, which he has been growing for the occasion.

He said he was inspired to take part in this year's charity event by his grandmother.

"My grandmother beat leukaemia," he said.

"I just want to raise some money and I'm happy to help a good cause."

Dale Popovich and his brother Andrew will brave the shears together to raise money for the foundation.

Mr Popovich said he had always wanted to take part in the event to commemorate his grandfather, who died from leukaemia, and aims to raise about $1000.

His co-worker Stephanie O'Keefe is planning to auction off her plait before getting the rest of her hair shorn off.
