Two Broome youngsters are showing they are leaders of the pack after recently being presented with the Grey Wolf scout award.

Noah Coopes and Jasmin Coulson, both 11, received the prestigious award which is the highest level badge a cub scout can earn, after completing Gold Boomerang level of scouting competency.

Jasmin is the first Broome girl to achieve the Grey Wolf award, while Noah is the fourth boy scout to receive the badge, which requires youngsters to complete a number of outcomes including leadership challenges, activities, participating in community service and creating a scouting program resource for other children to use.

The merits were presented at the Broome Sea Scout Hall on May 8 by Regional Commissioner of Scouts Ian Darwen, who promised Noah nearly three years ago that he would personally fly to Broome to give him the award should he earn it.

Group leader Andrew Coopes said the families were extremely proud of the pair for their achievement.

“It takes a huge amount of effort and parent support for the kids to get this award,” he said.

“It is a reflection of the dedication of the kids, the parents and the amazing leaders we have in our group.

“It is a remarkable achievement for these kids at such a young age and is testimony to how much they are growing through their exciting personal journeys in the world of scouting.”

Proud parent Craig Coulson said the awards were a testament to the dedication and hard work of the leaders, parent helpers and scout committee.

“The support from these volunteers is fantastic and make a parents role in the process relatively easy,” he said.

“Without the hidden and visible hard work and dedication these awards would not be achievable.

“I am not only a proud cub dad, I am also very happy to be able to help, support and donate my time to what is a fantastic youth movement.”
