The Broome Heat women's surfboat team has had a massively successful year and are training with a religious zeal in the lead-up to prestigious competitions.

Led by coach/sweep Peter Selten, the team was crowned as Australian champions in the masters 160+ division at the national championships in the Gold Coast back in April.

The successful team of five have been broken up ahead of the new season, with Jo Greenfield- Fox and Melissa Wilkinson replacing Simone Fountain and Yindi Newman.

The group, which has longstanding duo Carrie Selten and Donna Jamieson still included, are set to compete in the Australian Surf Rowers Navy Boat Series this Sunday in Secret Harbour.

It will be the first event of the new season for the hard-working team, which has been putting the hard yards in with 5am starts on Cable Beach.

All the hard work is geared towards the team defending the national crown at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, which will be held at Scarborough Beach next April.

Mr Selten said the group was confident despite the changes in personnel.

"Despite the reformed crew we are confident that we can do well as our training has been tough," he said.

"The new members add to the team spirit and we are looking forward to testing ourselves in Secret Harbour."
