The spectacular Chinatown Christmas street party exploded into life last week and thrilled thousands of people who flocked to the event to get into the festive spirit.

After last year's hugely successful inaugural event, this time around organiser Spirit 102.9 Broome pulled out all the stops to create a bigger and better party for the whole town to enjoy.

The party was hosted in conjunction with Chinatown Traders, the Shire of Broome and the Broome Chamber of Commerce.

Celebrations kicked off about 5pm on Thursday, with Dampier and Carnarvon streets closed off to traffic to cater for the mammoth festivity.

As daylight faded, Chinatown sparkled magnificently with the twinkle of colourful lights and decorations adorning the windows and doorways of many businesses, enticing countless shoppers keen to take advantage of the late night shopping available.

The beautifully decorated boab trees stood strikingly tall and majestic beneath the Kimberley stars and attracted many families who flocked over to enjoy their beauty.

Glittering handcrafted banners made by children hovered high throughout Chinatown for all to see. Highlights of the night included market stalls, food vendors, live music and entertainment and a special visit from Santa.

Youngsters enjoyed an array of activities, including face painting, a bouncy castle, and petting the mighty but friendly Kabul from Red Sun Camels.

Locals also flocked to Sun Pictures to enjoy a free movie.
