Fishing workshop lures women

Rob DoughertyBroome Advertiser

Broome Girls Gone Fishing held its third educational workshop with more than 40 local female anglers gathering at Broome Fishing Club meet.

Care and maintenance of fishing equipment, preservation of fish life and competition fishing were the main focuses of the day with small sessions of cast-net throwing demonstrated by Karen Crosby and knot-tying tutorials.

The afternoon also featured speeches from Broome Tackleworld representatives, advice from Joe’s Reel Servicing, Broome Fishing Club secretary Alyssa Faulkner providing an in-depth competition fishing guide and North Regional TAFE lecturer and Department of Fisheries biologist Ben Little, giving valuable insight into best practice for holding and releasing fish.

More than 35 boats entered the registration night for the Broome Fishing Club’s inaugural Threadfin Shootout held at the same time and the next Broome Girls Gone Fishing workshop is sure to be just as impressive when it’s held at Broome Fishing Club on Saturday, May 7.
