Former defence chief set to attend Broome Anzac service
Former Australian Defence Force chief Sir Angus Houston is expected to attend the Broome Anzac Day dawn service next Monday.
Broome RSL president Stuart Simpson said Mr Houston had been invited to attend the event to pay his respects while visiting the town.
Thousands of community members are expected to attend this year’s Anzac service at Bedford Park, hosted by the RSL, which marks the solemn day of remembrance of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers landed at Gallipoli in 1915.
Mr Simpson said there would be a gathering of veterans and patrons at 5am at the park with the parade due to begin at 5.15am.
St Mary’s College students will perform a poignant piece during the service.
The RSL will host its gunfire breakfast after the ceremony, with two up from lunchtime onwards.
Meanwhile, Derby will also host an Anzac service at the Lions Park War Memorial, with the march beginning at 5am.
