July
A Broome woman is jumping on the booze-free bandwagon this month as part of the Dry July campaign.
Kristy Peach will join thousands of Australians and go teetotal this month to raise awareness and funds for the initiative.
Dry July is an annual fundraiser that challenges people to go booze-free to support those affected by cancer.
Now in its ninth year, the campaign has raised more than $24 million to provide better services and environments for cancer patients and their families and carers.
Ms Peach has decided to take part because it is a great cause and she has a close family friend who is a breast cancer survivor.
The resident said the hard part would be avoiding alcohol while socialising with friends or spending time with visiting family, but said she was up for the challenge.
“I have faith in myself and it will be a good thing,” she said.
“I’m a fairly active person and I do eat healthy, so it will just be a fairly good motivator more than anything.”
While steering clear of alcohol for the next few weeks, Ms Peach said her tipple of choice would be mineral water served in a champagne glass.
