The managers of the Town Beach Café in Broome have been granted a new short-term lease subject to conditions in the wake of pending development options for the precinct.

Shire of Broome councillors have authorised chief executive Kenn Donohoe to negotiate the rental terms and charges with the lessees Bruce and Anne Chamberlain.

The rent would be based on a current market valuation and increased would be based on CPI increases.

The Chamberlains requested a new arrangement from the council as their current lease expires on February 28, 2016.

They pledged to carry out tasks at their own expense, including painting the roof and replacing floor brickwork in the alfresco area, in exchange for a reduction in rent.

Councillors agreed to grant the Chamberlains a two-year lease with a one-year extension option.

Shire officers said the agreement would allow the council to maintain rental income from the café while exploring proposals at Town Beach identified in the Old Broome Development Strategy.
