OPINION: New women’s courses just the ticket

Andrew RowlandBroome Advertiser

The Broome Girls Gone Fishing group continues to offer great opportunities for women to interested in recreational fishing.

They have run several workshops already on topics such as fishing tips, knot-tying and cast-net throwing, and have attracted good numbers.

Over the next few months they are offering two Recreational Skipper’s Ticket courses.

These courses will include theory sessions, practical sessions and the assessment to obtain a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket.

Recfishwest is pleased to be able to support these courses with grant funding which will subsidise the cost for all participants.

Recfishwest provided a community grant to the Broome Fishing Club to enable it to grow the female fishing community in Broome.

This grant has halved the cost of the course for participants.

There are two dates available for the course, with the first set of evening theory sessions running from Tuesday to Thursday this week.

The practical part of the course will be on July 2 and 3.

There will be another opportunity from August 16-18, with the practical sessions on August 20 and 21.

Each course can accommodate 20 women and they need to be a member of the Broome Fishing Club to take part.

The cost for each course is $137.50 a person.
