Pearlers face Sharks at One Arm Point

Gareth McKnightBroome Advertiser

The Broome Pearlers masters’ football team took a travelling cohort to One Arm Point last month to face Bardi Sharks in a community-focussed game.

Over 50 players, partners, children and supporters from Broome made the trip to the Dampier Peninsula community to face the local team in a good-natured exhibition match.

A junior game between local youngsters was arranged as a pre-cursor, with a number of the Broome children also taking part.

In the seniors game, skill levels were high in a match played with great enthusiasm by both teams.

In the end, despite dogged resistance from the visitors, the Bardi Sharks came out triumphant and won by a small margin.

Pearlers vice-president Duncan Thorn said the game was thoroughly worthwhile.

“This was the second year that we have travelled up to One Arm Point for the game and it was great to see the whole community come out to play or watch,” he said.

“It was a fantastic day for all who attended and we would like to say thank you to Darren Mitchelson for organising the fixture from the One Arm Point end.”

The Pearlers are set to play their final game of the 2015 season against Port Hedland at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre this Saturday.
