Fun and games marked the end of the season for Broome junior netball’s NetSetGO skills program and 10-and-under competitions last weekend.

The Broome Netball Association organised an evening of fast-paced round robin involving five teams with mini four-minute halves.

The event finished with finale presentations.

NetSetGO co-ordinator Emma Carlow said more than 70 youngsters had gathered every Saturday morning for netball.

“The last session on Friday night was a chance to bring the age groups together for some fun games,” she said.

“Afterwards, the littlest netballers were thrilled to be presented with a size four Gilbert netball, an ANZ NetSetGO T-shirt and a participation medal.”

Broome Netball Association junior committee member Roslyn Butcher said that there had been marked improvements in the skills of the 10-and-under players.

“It is always a joy to see the development over the season for the players in this age group,” she said.

“They are very difficult to umpire in those first few weeks, but by the end, have a much better grasp of the rules and how to play.

“We are looking forward to seeing some of the older ones moving up to the 12-and-under competition next year.”

Netballers in the 12, 14 and 17-and-under age groups resume games after the school holidays, with finals scheduled for early August.
