Parts of the Kimberley and Pilbara have been placed on flood alert.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the unsealed Cape Leveque Road north of Broome was closed and that people travelling along Gibb River Road should keep up to date with road conditions.

DFES said people in the Kimberley, inland Pilbara and eastern Pilbara should prepare for possible minor flooding expected today and tomorrow.

Although there was no immediate danger, DFES advised the public to keep up to date in case the situation changes.

Showers are being generated by a broad trough extending from the Kimberley coast to the Pilbara and into the inland Gascoyne.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast to develop in the western parts of the Kimberley district, northern parts of the interior district and eastern parts of the Pilbara today and tomorrow.

River rises with areas of localised flooding may occur in the western parts of the Kimberley district, northern parts of the Interior district and eastern parts of the Pilbara district over the next few days.

Catchments likely to be affected include the Prince Regent River, Isdell River, Lennard River and Cape Leveque Coast.
