Residents vie for gold at annual Olympics
Residents of Broome’s Germanus Kent House and Southern Cross Care Bran Nue Dae Home rolled back the years last month as they took on their South Hedland equivalents in a well-received Seniors Olympic Games.
The two local aged-care facilities competed against Silver Chain’s South Hedland Social Centre in a host of friendly games and activities such as indoor bowls, beanbag and tennis ball toss and quoits.
The visiting Hedland team proved the sprightliest of the participants, being crowned 2015 champions.
Germanus Kent House activities coordinator Janet Leslie said the event was popular with the seniors.
“All the residents absolutely loved it and their spirits were lifted – all you see was smiles,” she said.
“A lot of them know the people from the Pilbara and thoroughly enjoyed the interaction.”
Ms Leslie confirmed that the indoor bowls was such a hit that Germanus Kent and Bran Nue Dae are set to meet once a fortnight going forward to participate and socialise.
Hedland team captain Beryl Adamson congratulated everyone in the Broome and Hedland teams, saying they all did a fantastic job and everyone had a great time.
