Saints claim biggest win of Belt Up round
There was a focus on safety at the weekend, as West Kimberley Football League spread the message that “seatbelts save lives” during Belt Up round 5.
Saints provided the biggest win for the round, thrashing Towns 105 points to 57, which may have caused some anger as a small confrontation started at the end of the third quarter.
Standout players included C Bell, who kicked another three goals for Towns to take his season total to 10, and M'''''' Hunter who seized four for Saints.
Looma Eagles were defeated by the Bulls at the weekend, 49 points to 68, with a small crowd of players forming at the boundary after the siren.
There were some outstanding efforts put in by Dermitt Wilson, who kicked four goals for the Eagles to add to his season total of 10 and Ben Sarsfield who kicked six for Bulls.
Looma Eagles coach Winston Pindan said the team played well but would need to tighten up their skills over the coming week.
“It went alright I suppose, we need to work on a few things, like our fitness is up there but it’s just trying to perfect our skills, handballing, passing, which makes a big difference in our team,” he said.
“We had opportunities, but we missed a few goals and we will need to tighten up hitting the targets more and handballing a bit cleaner”.
Derby has shown improvement through the rounds, narrowly losing to Cable Beach on Saturday, 79 points to 81. Sonny Dann, who has accrued eight goals across the rounds, kicked another six and is definitely looking to rest at the higher end of the leading goal kicker’s scoreboard.
Peninsula Bombers proved Bidyadanga Emus were not invincible this week, with the game all tied up at 67 points apiece. The Emus took a hit in the third quarter when Angelo Thomas was given a yellow card and 15-minute suspension for a rough tackle after the whistle.
