The mother of a Perth tradie, who is clinging to life in a Balinese hospital after a moped crash, is desperately trying to raise funds to medevac him home and says she may even sell her home to make it happen.

Shane Ramsay — a 30-year-old carpenter from Clarkson — is in an induced coma in a Seminyak Hospital due to suffering severe brain and lung damage after crashing his moped into a pole on Sunday.

Mr Ramsay had travelled to the holiday destination to be a groomsman at a close friend’s wedding and had not purchased travel insurance.

His mother, Catherine Ramsey, travelled over to Bali in the immediate aftermath of the disaster and has been desperately trying to bring her injured son home.

She says she is willing to sell her house to fund a medical evacuation flight, which is estimated to cost about $150,000.

“I just want to get him home and we’re in a strange country and I just want to go home,” Ms Ramsay told 9News.

“He needs to be back in Perth ... the medevac, I don’t know what that’s going to cost.

“I’ll sell the house if I have to, we just got to get him back to where he needs to be.”

A GoFundMe has been created in a bid to bring the “beloved” 30-year-old back.

“Shane was involved in a very serious accident on the moped in Bali resulting in a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, blood in his lungs, and severe brain damage,” organiser Amyleigh Mitchell wrote.

“Shane has undertaken the neurosurgery and is now in a coma.

“Unfortunately Shane had no travel insurance and we are hoping to raise as much as we can to help cover the hospital costs and to bring Shane home. Surgery alone costs $53,000.

“We just want to bring Shane home as soon as possible to be closer to all his friends and family! Please any donations will be very appreciated and will relieve some of the pressure on his family to cover the costs.”

The GoFundMe has so far reached more than $75,000.

“I don’t have any words, to be honest for the support that we’re getting from people,” Ms Ramsay said.

The desperate mother has urged travellers not to hop on mopeds.

“Don’t do it, I mean it’s just too dangerous,” she said.

Premier Roger Cook on Tuesday reminded travellers to protect themselves

“Please everyone, just get travel insurance, it’s the easiest way to protect yourself and keep you safe overseas,” Mr Cook said.
