Broome’s iconic cultural drawcard, the Shinju Matsuri Festival, will shine on as a longstanding community event after securing sponsorship for the next three years.

The State Government, through Tourism WA, recently signed a three-year deal to continue its sponsorship of the premier event until 2018.

The support was made possible by Royalties for Regions.

Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett said the new agreement would help the event attract more intrastate and interstate visitors by offering high-calibre attractions such as art exhibitions and culinary events, and will create community vibrancy through activities such as the Mardi Gras float parade.

Shinju Matsuri president Chris Maher welcomed the announcement and said the sponsorship was extremely important in supporting the iconic event into the future.

“It’s a huge investment by the Government into our festival and into our community, and will allow Shinju Matsuri to grow into a world-class event.”

The 46th Shinju Matsuri Festival will be held from September 10-18.
