Derby Tigers are the only unbeaten side in this year's West Kimberley Football League and sit on top of the ladder after three rounds.

The travelling side showed too much pace and power for Peninsula Bombers last Saturday, winning 12.23 (95) to 9.6 (60) at Haynes Oval.

The Tigers were a real threat last year due to the sheer size of their team, but they look to have added speed to their midfield in the off-season.

Paul Taylor had a good game for the victorious side, while Clinton Bangmorra and Scott McKenzie also impressed.

The Bombers are much more competitive this season, with Terence and David Cox both fighting admirably in defeat.

Reigning premiers Looma Eagles also picked up a victory, beating Towns FC 14.14 (98) to 7.8 (50).

The community side got off to a good start and were in the ascendancy for the entirety of the clash, with a solid team effort seeing them pick up the four points.

Lyle Buck, who kicked a last-gasp winner against Cable Beach the week prior, was a driving force once more in Looma's engine room.

Towns' young side have a significant amount of team spirit, with Sean Gregory, Mitch Blackley and Rhonan Maher all standing out for the losing side.

Broome Bulls got their first win of the season against local rivals Saints, coming home 14.7 (91) to 9.11 (65).

Experienced forward Ben Sarsfield kicked five majors in his team's victory, while midfield lynchpin Hayden McLeod was named fairest and best after another standout showing.

Saints beat Looma on the opening day of the season but have followed this up with two mediocre performances and were firmly second best here.

Without Jack Regan, the side lacked direction, but Michael Farmer did all he could in Saints' forward line.

Bulls will be confident of picking up a top-four spot this season, and will be a tough team to beat if they can maintain their current player numbers.

Finally, Cable Beach overcame a scare on Friday night to edge out Bidyadanga Emus 9.13 (67) to 5.3 (33).

Last season's grand finalists welcomed back Kevin Bullen medallist Jo Dann to their side, who had a telling influence.

Sonny Dann also had a good game, offering a threat in Beach's attack.

Angelo Thomas was absent for the Emus, but Brenton Bangu and Francis Shoveller excelled for the defeated side.

WKFL president Graeme Gordon said it had been a good start to the season, with the tournament much more competitive than in previous years.

Cable Beach and Derby clash this Saturday, while Looma take on Bombers.

Bidyadanga will look to bounce back against Saints and on Friday night, Broome rivals Towns and Bulls meet at BRAC.
