Training institute wins hotels award
Kimberley Training Institute was named WA's best regional hospitality education and training provider at an industry awards night in Perth last week.
The local education body took out the title at the Australian Hotels Association WA Hospitality Supplier Awards after receiving the highest number of votes from members.
Boasting an industry-standard training restaurant and a team of skilled lecturers, KTI injects a wealth of resources into training, preparing and upskilling workers for the local hospitality industry each year.
The Pearler's Shed training restaurant - based off-campus in the heart of Chinatown - opens to the public weekly and caters for off-site events, allowing students to gain real industry experience.
KTI managing director Karen Dickinson said the award was a great indication the facility and staff was satisfying the community's training needs.
"We opened The Pearler's Shed three years ago with the aim of giving our students a greater hands-on experience that would prepare them for the work industry," she said.
"It is great to see KTI's initiative along with the efforts of our hardworking hospitality team being recognised … it is especially humbling knowing the votes came from AHA members, who represent a large portion of our peers and other members of the hotel and hospitality industry in WA."
