You've goat to be kidding
Social media sensation Gary the goat has swapped his busy routine for some adventurous sightseeing and social events in the Kimberley.
Owner and comedian Jimbo Bazoobi caused a stir when he walked up to the Broome Turf Club entrance as Ladies’ Day was in full swing yesterday.
Polite but firm security guards rebuffed his advances — despite Jimbo offering to place Gary in a dress to meet strict dress code standards — leaving goat and owner facing a slightly less social afternoon than anticipated outside the gates.
The visit came the day after Jimbo took up an offer from tour operator Troy Thomas to fly Gary over Horizontal Falls in a seaplane, followed by a speedboat ride on Monday.
“A couple of our crew were at Jimbo’s pub comedy gig in Broome, and promised to get Gary up in the air,” Mr Thomas said.
“We checked all the regulations and had to put him in a specially made wooden box for the plane trip, but his head could stick out.”
“The other passengers on the speed boat were stoked when they saw him.”
But the bug-eyed sensation was not so popular when he was refused entry to Derby’s Boab Inn on Thursday.
A pub worker said he and his colleagues had no idea who Jimbo and Gary were.
“He left his goat out in the car park,” he said.
“When we told him we had a no animal policy and refused it from entering the premises, the owner started yelling in the restaurant area.”
Mr Bazoobi said he was disappointed.
“When you are on the road, some people love you and some people hate you," he said.
"There was no yelling from me and no bleating from Gary."
Jimbo reportedly bought Gary for a carton of beer while doing a show at Gingin five years ago.
