Lachie Neale is now the clear Brownlow Medal favourite, after a remarkable seventh game with 25+ disposals and 1+ goals in 2020.

The former Docker has been in outstanding form for Brisbane, with commentator Bruce McAvaney tipping only Tiger Dustin Martin will get close to him come Brownlow night.

WHAT WOULD FREO LOOK LIKE IF NEALE-HOGAN-LOBB TRADE NEVER HAPPENED?

“Lachie got 26 votes last year and his season this year seems to be better but his biggest difference this year is he’s kicking goals, I think the midfielders who kick goals are the most likely to win Brownlow Medals,” McAvaney told 7NEWS.

“Lachie has kicked nine or 10 goals this year, he’s averaging one a game and if you continue to do that ... definitely if they stopped the count now I’d be astounded if he wasn’t in front.”

TAB has installed Neale as the $1.65 Medal favourite, with Martin a $9 second.

Neale is averaging 29 disposals a game in 2020 and has 11 goals to his name so far this season. He could have more majors if not for the six behinds he kicked against Adelaide in round four.

His worst showing was a 20-possession game against GWS but Neale still managed to kick a goal, lay three tackles and have four clearances.

In Saturday night’s win over the Western Bulldogs, Neale had an astonishing 12 clearances, 36 disposals and a goal.

Footy fans have already labelled the 2020 Brownlow Medal as Neale’s to lose, but the man himself is staying focused on each game.

“Body’s feeling really good... I’m probably moving the best I have in my career,” he said on 7AFL.

Neale was traded by Fremantle to the Lions at the end of 2018 for draft picks that resulted in the acquisition of Rory Lobb and Jesse Hogan.

Neale finished equal third in the Brownlow Medal in 2019 with 26 votes, one behind second place Patrick Dangerfield and seven behind winner, and former teammate, Nat Fyfe.
