Great Britain flag bearer Tom Daley has capped his Olympic diving comeback with a fifth medal as China dominated the 10m men's synchronised event.

Daley and Noah Williams won silver but were no match for Lian Junjie and Yang Hao, who led throughout the six rounds on Monday at the Paris aquatics centre.

The Australian pair of Domonic Bedggood and Cassiel Rousseau finished sixth out of eight pairs and were pleased with their performance.

The 10m men's synchro was the only diving event the Chinese did not win at the Tokyo Games. Then, they left the door open for Daley and Matty Lee, who narrowly won gold.

This time there would be no mistake as the Chinese had the top score in each round.

After the Tokyo gold medal was decided by less than two points, the Chinese scored 490.35 and Great Britain posted 463.44, with Canada claiming bronze.

Daley also has won three bronze as well as his Tokyo gold and his son Robbie convinced him to return to competition for Paris.

"It's just so special - this time last year deciding to come back, never mind not knowing if I would make the synchro team," he told the BBC.

"Doing it in front of my son who asked me to come back is so special I now have one of every colour. I've completed the set."

Daley added he is unsure whether he will try to go on to the Los Angeles Games.

Rousseau and Bedggood were fourth in the first round and then slipped back to sixth, scoring 394.74.

"I'm really happy with our performance - coming into this competition, Cass and myself were the underdog team and it's amazing teams we were up against," Bedggood said.

"We put down five out of six great dives, we're happy with that. Little mistakes, that happens in sport.

"Cass and I don't even train in the same city ... for us to come together when we do, and put it together as good as we did today, we're extremely happy.

Bedggood and Rousseau won bronze at a World Cup event in March, raising hopes of a medal behind China and Great Britain.

But as they noted, several top teams were missing from that event.

Australia's only Olympic medal in the event has been bronze at the 2004 Games in Athens.

Rousseau will also compete on August 9 in the 10m individual platform and is a medal contender after winning last year's world title.
