Some of Fremantle’s stars have already made a return to the club’s Cockburn training facilities, weeks before the start of pre-season.

Back-to-back Doig Medal-winner Caleb Serong was one of a number of Dockers to hit the track for a morning running session on Monday.

Defenders Heath Chapman, Brennan Cox, Josh Draper and Corey Wagner were also at Cockburn, with Michael Frederick and Jye Amiss.

Serong was in Melbourne last week for the Brownlow Medal, where he finished inside the top five and the grand final.

The group was also spotted running with a pair of Border Collies in pictures posted to Fremantle’s social media on Monday.

The Dockers’ season ended with a final round loss to Port Adelaide that meant they missed the finals for the second straight year.

It is expected Fremantle players will officially return to the club for pre-season in the final week of November, according to the new players’ collective bargaining agreement, with first to fourth-year players the first back.

Players are also given leave over Christmas.

After winning his second best-and-fairest in as many tears, Serong said watching other clubs play finals had convinced him the Dockers are good enough to be there from next season.

“I am watching it and thinking we are ready to play at this time of year,” he said.

“I’m seeing the teams we’ve played throughout the year and how we competed, and the games that were swung on moments but in 90 per cent of those games we were in or competed or were better than the competition we played against.

“Seeing what those teams are now doing in finals, there’s a very fine line between those teams and winning and losing at this level at the moment.”
