Australian Sami Kennedy-Sim has been eliminated from medal contention after a strong run in the ski cross at the Beijing Olympics.

Kennedy-Sim qualified 11th-fastest and then won her 1/8 and quarter-final rounds to blast into medal contention on Thursday at Genting Snow Park.

But the 33-year-old finished a distant last out of four in her semi-final heat and that put the three-time Olympians into the small final.

Kennedy-Sim was also last in the small final to place eighth place overall, matching her result at the 2018 Olympics.

Sweden’s two-time world champion dominated the event, qualifying fastest and winning all her rounds to convincingly claim the gold medal.

It is the first time since ski cross became an Olympic sport in 2010 that a Canadian has not won the women’s gold medal.

Naesland made a blazing start in the final and stayed well clear of a tight battle for the minor medals.

Canadian Marielle Thompson crossed the line second ahead of Swiss Fanny Smith, but the race was under judging review.
