Cowboys and Kangaroos star Valentine Holmes is set to miss upcoming internationals against Samoa with the fullback set to be suspended for his ‘white powder’ post.

In a post to his Instagram on September 10 Holmes was seen with a bag of white powder between his teeth with the NRL stepping in to investigate.

The league has now issued a breach notice to Holmes after he allegedly “brought the game and his club into disrepute by publicly associating the game with illegal drugs”.

Holmes has until 3pm WA time to respond to the notices.

News Corp reports that he will accept a one-game suspension and a $25,000 fine.

Holmes is also expected to front his club’s board who could hand out additional penalties and suspensions for his conduct.

At a minimum, Holmes will miss the first game for the Kangaroos’ upcoming Pacific Championships against Samoa on October 14.

He was also left out of the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII team to face PNG on Saturday when the NRL investigation was still ongoing.

Late last week Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga said they had adequate cover for Holmes.

“His name was mentioned but he wasn’t allowed to play, which is fine. I’m one of the last people that condones what Val did. We’re comfortable with our decision making and where the game is at with Val,” he said.

His penalty is in line with similar scandals the most recent being when Melbourne Storm’s Cameron Munster, Brandon Smith and Chris Lewis were each banned for one game and fined almost $50,000 combined for their own white powder incident two years ago.
