Gareth McKnightBroome Advertiser

Towns and Looma Eagles both recorded wins last Saturday in the first weekend of the West Kimberley Football League, beating Peninsula Bombers and Broome Bulls respectively.

In hot and sticky conditions Towns edged Bombers out 14.10(94) to 14.9(93) in a suspense filled opening fixture at Haynes Oval.

The eventual victors started the brighter of the two teams in the first quarter, taking a 4.4(28) to 3.2 (20) lead into the break after 20 minutes of play.

Bombers had a big second quarter however, kicking seven goals to take a well-deserved 10.4(64) to 5.6 (36) lead into the half-time interval.

Towns shortened the deficit in the third quarter, bringing the score back to 11.6(72) to 10.7(67) and set up a dramatic last 20 minutes.

The game could have went either way, however Towns ended up edging it by a point. David Cox kicked four goals for Bombers, while Sean Connolly, Damien Crispen and Sean Gregory all converted three six-pointers each for Towns.
