The Kimberley’s Kallum Mungulu Band books gig at Nannup Music Festival thanks to share in $1.9m funding

First Block Sounds has secured a share in $1.9 million in funding for Mowanjum Community’s Kallum Mungulu Band as part of the State Government’s 2024-2025 round of the Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups program. The organisation will receive $14,000 to support the band’s participation in the Nannup Music Festival from February 28 to March 3 and the staging of one of their own shows. Two other organisations from the region are also receiving support. Kimberley Arts Network will receive $25,000 for its Regional Arts Triennial set for 2026 and the Waringarri Arts Aboriginal Corporation will receive $50,000 for the Kimberley Aborigi9nal Arts and Culture International Connections Project. They are three of the 42 initiatives to share in the funding. Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman said the WA culture and arts scene was “well and truly alive.” “These programs are helping grow and secure a strong and sustainable future for WA’s creative industries, artists and organisations,” he said. “Funding from the Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups and Arts Projects for Organisations programs helps artists and industry professionals to deliver high quality one-off projects or a program of activity.” First Block Sounds supports remote and regional musicians throughout their journey in the industry, from beginners to seasoned performers.
